...was a research based gallery, a night of performance, and a student advocacy group rolled into one. As a gallery, we sought to share SIM history with the MassArt community as a whole, empower students to understand their agency in the school, and emphasize the importance of student action and art as the forefront of MassArts priorities, both in administration and space occupied on campus. The night of performance put a spotlight on absurdist, non-linear, and nonsensical performances, including a mock auction, a reverent bread-sitting, the slathering of ingredients on a performer while they recited a recipe for aforementioned ingredients in spanish, a blood bath, a saxophone battle, and a performance consisting only of the phrase, “oh no”.
As an advocacy group, we are seeking to improve communication between students and leadership in the school, unify the majors, and resolve grievances that otherwise would go unnoticed or unheard. We believe the student body deserves safe, clean, and accessible studios. We are also planning to start group discussion and planning sessions to bring to light the issues each major faces on campus, and form a list of grievances to bring to administration as a united front.
